Agnes Maria Toebaert (née DeBel)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend Agnes Maria Toebaert (née DeBel), who passed away peacefully on June 25, 2026 at the age of 85.

Agnes was born on April 7, 1941, in Ingelmunster, Belgium. Despite the hardships of the Second World War, she enjoyed a happy childhood growing up on her family’s farm with her two older brothers Pierre and Eric.

She married the love of her life Jozef Toebaert on August 14, 1962. The following year, they immigrated to Cloverdale, British Columbia, where they built their home, raised their family and shared nearly 64 wonderful years of marriage.

Together they raised three children, Frank, Caroline and Christine. Agnes devoted herself to caring for her family while also keeping the books for the family business, Dundee Auto Electric. Family was always at the heart of everything she did.

Agnes loved returning to Belgium to visit family and, in retirement, she and Jozef travelled extensively throughout the world. They also enjoyed many winters at their home in Yuma, Arizona, where they made lasting friendships and wonderful memories.

She was a proud grandmother to Mark, Malcolm, Ethan, Jacob, Katie, Ayva, and Holly, and loving great-grandmother to Miller and Lowen.

In her later years, dementia slowly took Agnes from us. She spent the last nine months in a care home, where she was lovingly cared for by staff who came to know and love her. Jozef visited her every day, and her children and grandchildren surrounded her with love until the very end.

Agnes will be remembered for her kindness, quiet strength, unwavering work ethic, and deep love for her family. She will be forever loved and dearly missed.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Precious Blood Roman Catholic Church (17475 59th Avenue, Surrey) at 11:00am on Friday, July 10, 2026.
