With profound sadness, we announce the death of Lois Nicks. Born in Macoun, Saskatchewan to Richard (“Dick”) Carson Van Horne and Clara Van Horne (neé Swenson). Lois was much loved by her parents and brothers Richard Wayne, Dayton Allen and Dale Elwood. After a long stay in Burnaby General Hospital, Lois passed peacefully from her pain just two months shy of her 94th birthday. Lois was a full-time homemaker who cared deeply for her family. She supported her husband, Ron, not only in his Masonic life, but also in his work as a union representative of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. Lois was a stalwart member of The Order of the Eastern Star, Ypres Chapter #48. As a volunteer, she found great purpose and fulfillment spending many hours preparing special bandages for cancer patients. Lois was a dedicated member of the stamp collecting team which raised funds for cancer research through the auspices of the OES. Known for her love of teasing and swapping jokes, she often said, “So long as we can laugh and joke and tease, we’re alright.” Lois teased and joked with BGH’s medical team who looked after her until her last breath. Her constant warm smile and cheerful spirit will be missed by all who knew her. Lois is pre-deceased by her husband, Ron, and all of her immediate family. She is survived by her daughters, Lori, Elaine (Mark) and as well as her grandchildren, Reid and Breann. There are many nephews, nieces and their families as well as extended family and dear friends who all have fond memories of her.
