Andrew Jock Peddie

January 8, 1975 — April 1, 2026

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Andrew "Andy" Jock Peddie, who passed away in the early hours of April 1, 2026, at Surrey Memorial Hospital at the age of 51.

Early Life and Education
Born on January 8, 1975, in Richmond, British Columbia, Andy spent his formative years in Vancouver. At the age of ten, his family moved to North Delta, the community he would call home for the remainder of his life.

From a young age, Andy possessed an insatiable curiosity and a brilliant mind. He developed a lifelong passion for reading, often immersing himself in a book a day. This intellectual drive naturally extended to technology and computers; he began writing simple programs as a boy, a hobby that eventually defined his professional life. Andy attended Kwantlen College before transferring to the University of British Columbia, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Computer Science.

Professional Impact and Community
As a Computer Scientist, Andy contributed his talents to various companies, developing code for numerous projects. His work remains in use by people all over the world today—a legacy he was quietly and deeply proud of.

Beyond his technical achievements, Andy was defined by the quality of his character and the depth of his relationships:

-Professional Bonds: He shared a strong bond and lasting friendship with a number of coworkers, both past and present, who valued his brilliance and his presence in the workplace.

-Humility and Loyalty: He was a shy, private man who never sought recognition, yet he was an incredibly loyal and steadfast friend.

-Generosity: He possessed a selfless nature, often helping others at his own expense and well-being.

Personal Interests and Family
Outside of his professional life, Andy found solace in the outdoors. He enjoyed camping when he could and spent much of his time capturing the beauty of the natural world through photography. In his quieter moments at home, he also really enjoyed watching anime, finding joy in the stories and artistry of the medium.

Andy carried a profound love for his mother and grandmother throughout his life. He felt their loss deeply after their passing, and his friends take comfort in knowing he is now at peace alongside them.

Final Farewell
In accordance with Andrew’s humble nature, he wished there be no funeral service. He requested to be cremated, with his ashes to be scattered under a tree overlooking his favorite lake, returning to the quiet nature he so loved.

Andy’s brilliance, kindness, and quiet strength will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
