Andrew Henry Wepruk

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Andrew Henry Wepruk, 89, on August 4, 2026. He was a man with a zest for life and laughing. He loved playing the guitar, music, and dancing until shortly before his death.

Formerly of Fort Frances, Ontario, Andrew retired to Cloverdale, BC in 1992. He achieved his goal of living in his own home, with the assistance of his daughter, until 2 weeks before his passing at Langley Memorial Hospital in Langley, BC. Despite a long battle with heart disease, diabetes, and eye disease, he fought hard to remain with us. He had more living to do.

Andrew (Andy) was the last child born to the late Nicholas and Mary Wepruk, on May 31, 1937 in Stuartburn (Sundown), Manitoba. He grew up in Deerlock, Ontario and graduated from Fort Frances high school. He is survived by his brother Bob Wepruk (Sandy) of Crozier, Ontario and was predeceased by his brother Metro Wepruk (Jean) of Surrey, BC in 2013.

He was the nephew of the late Annie (Frank) Nykyforchyn, Helen (Fred) Alexiuk, Steve (Annie) Eluik, John (Nora) Werenko, Nick (Mary) Werenko, Katrina (Helmut) Shultz, Matt (Kay) Werenko, Jean (Bill) Boychuk, Stella Smith, Pauline (Matt) Gusulak, Annie (Carl) Bodnarchuk, Mike (Helen) Wepruk, Nettie (Philip) Kereliuk, Katie (John) Kereliuk, Helen (John) Ossachuk, Valina (Harry) Anderson, Paul (Alice) Wepruk, Bill Wepruk, Stan (Elma) Wepruk. He is survived by his last remaining aunt, Dorothy Wepruk. He was predeceased and is survived by too many wonderful cousins to mention individually. His large family was important to him.

He leaves behind his son Brian of London, Ontario, his daughter Shelley of Burnaby, BC as well as his only and beloved grandchild Samantha of Burnaby, BC. He is survived by his 5 nieces and nephews in Fort Frances and BC, Barb Wepruk Lee (Mike), Kathy Taylor (Steve), Dale Wepruk plus his 3 boys (Curtis, Nicholas and Peyton), Wynona Wepruk, and Ronald Wepruk.

Andy worked for the town of Fort Frances for 32 years. Alongside his wife Ruby, he built his house at Frog Creek (Fort Frances) and lived there until their retirement to BC. They eventually separated. He was an extremely active retiree in BC, playing with the Cloverdale Devils softball team, playing guitar in the Ukrainian Dulcimer Band, singing in a Ukrainian choir, playing horseshoes, curling, and dancing at the Legion and Ukrainian hall. For numerous years he grew a large garden and made lots of borscht. He also made good wine. He was an avid cribbage player. He had many friends, enjoyed entertaining, and a good party throughout his life. He was always ready to lend a hand when his friends needed it. He served as president at Antrim Investments for several years.

He spent months each year at his condo in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, allowing him to escape the BC winter rains. He also travelled throughout Europe, Australia, Peru, Costa Rica, Canada and the USA, including Alaska. He loved spending time with family and always made an effort to stay in touch with far-flung relatives.

In his final years he slowed down considerably. He continued playing his guitar, dancing at the weekly senior dances, and spending most of his time at home with family. He was highly amused by having his granddaughter’s pets over often, Snoopy, the dog and Mittens, the cat. He maintained his retirement habit of staying up late and sleeping in until the crack of noon.

Following his wishes, a graveside service will be held September 3, 2026, at the Barwick (Chapel) Cemetery, Ontario, near his father’s gravesite, where Andrew will eternally rest. It will start at his 12:00 noon wake time. It will be followed by lunch at the Emo Ontario Legion.

All friends and relatives, including those who may not have seen him for a long while, please consider this your invitation to celebrate his life and visit with one another at his graveside service and lunch.
