Anne Catharine Lennon

With great sadness, the family of Anne Catharine Lennon would like to share that Anne passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025 in Vancouver at the age of 80 after a short battle with cancer.

Anne is survived by her husband of nearly forty years, Robert (Bob) Hanson; her daughters Sara (Geoffrey) and Jessica (Michael); her beloved grandson Elliott; her brothers Patrick and Joseph Lennon; and her sister Mary Mullan. She was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Catherine Lennon, and her brother Dennis.

Anne was born in Stratford, Ontario, which is named after the English town where William Shakespeare was born. Growing up in Stratford no doubt left an imprint on Anne as she went on to teach high school English for more than 30 years, including at Sir Charles Tupper and Britannia Secondary Schools in Vancouver. She retired from teaching in 2005, leaving behind a legacy of hundreds of students upon whom she impressed her love of the English language and the works of Shakespeare.

Having met in Whistler, Anne and Bob enjoyed an active lifestyle prior to children, skiing during the winters and cycling during the off season. Anne was fortunate to continue skiing well into her seventies, and she and Bob continued their passion for cycling, riding the trails at Whistler. Anne and Bob also enjoyed a number of road trips in recent years, both across Canada and the United States, visiting some 27 states.

After retiring from teaching, Anne channelled her energy into running and walking, completing two marathons in her 60s. Her enjoyment of walking continued until just prior to her illness as she joined her fellow retired teachers on weekly walks around Vancouver.

Anne loved the news and current events and always looked forward to reading the morning papers. She will be fondly remembered by her family and friends for her amazing memory, and in particular, her ability to remember everyone's birthday. Anne always managed to find the perfect card for any occasion, which was always accompanied by her beautiful prose.

The family would like to thank the health care teams at South Community Health Centre and St. John Hospice who provided compassionate care to Anne during her final days.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. John Hospice or the BC Cancer Agency.
