Athol was born on Mar 15, 1949 in East London SA, passed away peacefully May 30 after long illness. Son of Chinese language teachers, he finished high school at De La Salle College, East London, South Africa, obtained his B. comm accounting major at University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. Married to, then divorced from Lily Pon, three children Jonathan, Clinton & Gregory - all professionally successful in their métier. Immigrated to Canada in 1989, he was, until recently, active in Real Estate sales for over 30 yrs.

Well loved by family & colleagues. His siblings knew he was their reliable transportation with his minivan, with an unbelievable present mileage of over 393,000 km, was always available when needed, he lent a sympathetic ear to newcomers in the office & available to help when colleagues needed assistance. When the nieces from New Zealand were in town he would organized these memorable live lobster feast for all the extended family. Man with a big heart who oftentimes didn’t know the best way to express it !

As the sayings sometimes quote “One cannot be all things to all people”, but if there was any doubt that Athol was loved by family, friends and colleagues - it was put to rest in the last few weeks and months and two years before he succumbed peacefully to his illness, nieces from Hamilton NZ, Christchurch NZ, & Toronto ON came to comfort him at his bedside (last rites from Father Don earlier that day), friends from the office came to see him, his sister from Jo'burg S.A., Maureen’s visa came through in time during his last week at the hospice - God works in mysterious ways and has brought a close family even closer during this ordeal. Never lonely during this difficult period, Rest now in Peace Athol, God be with you always 🙏🌹 ❤️.
