Barry Leroy Ellwood, age 85, of Vancouver, BC, passed away peacefully at home on September 17, 2026, surrounded by family.
He was born February 24, 1941, in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, to Keith Leroy and Mary Agnes (nee Wallace) Ellwood. He graduated from Brandon College, earning accreditation in Accounting. Barry worked as a CGA and financial planner for over 45 years. He was a very astute and active investor in the stock market for himself and others.
Barry was a natural and gifted athlete. He was successful at many sports in his youth, particularly hockey, baseball and diving. As an adult he became an avid tennis player and golfer. Many of his early years as a parent were spent skiing, camping, hiking, lake fishing and sailing with his family. Whenever possible, recreating in nature was always the weekend chosen option.
Barry was also a talented lifelong musician, playing guitar and violin. To him, whether entertaining professionally, jamming around a festival campfire, or being part of a regular string quartet, music was always about having fun together while hopefully playing well. He passed on his love of music and exercise to his family.
Barry is survived by his long-time partner Rosemary Rising, his daughter Karen (Paul), his son Jon, and grandchildren Christopher (Cindy) and Carter. He was preceded in death by his wife Vivien, in 1999.
A celebration of life will be held 12:00 pm to 2:30 pm on Saturday, October 17 at Newport Quay, 518 Moberly Road in False Creek. Dial 1001 on intercom for admittance.
