Obituary
Daryle was born January 22, 1961 in Vancouver, BC, to Ian Hanson and Valerie Mumford Hanson. He was the oldest of three, with a younger brother Jeffrey and sister Debbie. In Daryle’s early years he was a passionate and talented soccer player and a certified black belt in Kung Fu. For a time, he coached girls’ soccer and owned his own Kung Fu studio. Daryle worked primarily as a commercial drywall finisher and foreman throughout Metro Vancouver until he decided to start his own vending machine business called Vodo Vending. He met his future wife Cheryl Shewchuk at the end of 1994 and the pair married December 16th, 1995. They welcomed their first and only child Alexy Rae Hanson on December 27th, 1995.
Family time was spent supporting Alexy in various extra-curricular activities and vacationing down the Pacific Northwest Coast.
Daryle’s true gift and passion was cooking, influenced by his late step-grandpa Cornforth who was both a chef and gardener. You could often find Daryle volunteering in the kitchen as chef and server at various church functions and summer camps over the years.
In December of 2018, Daryle travelled with his wife Cheryl to Brazil for their daughter Alexy’s wedding where he most proudly walked her down the aisle on two prosthetic legs.
In July of 2021, Daryle welcomed his only grandchild Drey Alec Soares, where he assumed the role of ‘Grandpoobah’ taking him out on daily trips around the neighborhood in his ‘Harley’, the electric wheelchair.
Daryle was predeceased by both sets of grandparents, two brothers-in-law Brett and Scott, and most recently, his father, Ian Hanson on Nov. 3nd, 2022. He is survived by wife Cheryl, daughter Alexy, son-in-law Douglas and grandson Drey as well as his mother Valerie, brother Jeffrey and his wife Kim, sister Debbie as well as nieces Ashley, Brandi, Carley, Melissa, Shannon and their families and nephew Scott.
Daryle faced many health struggles and challenges over the years and up to his most recent battle, he fought the good fight. He never complained and as a quiet, unassuming person, his life was a Christian testimony of long-suffering patience and endurance.
