David Dorsch passed away peacefully on September 18, 2025, surrounded by family at his new home in North Vancouver.
Born in Stratford, Ontario, to Grace (Beech) and Lorne, he spent much of his childhood in Kitchener and Lindsay playing sports or finding new ways to get into trouble with his younger brother, Ken. They spent many wonderful summers hitchhiking up to their cottage on Dickie Lake, sailing, boating, and swimming to their friends’ cottage across the lake.
Dave studied at McMaster University before attending Osgoode Hall Law School, a path that would lead to a long and successful legal career. But it was a summer working in Banff that truly changed his life - it was there he met the love of his life, Pat. The two went on to travel the world together, raise three daughters, and build a beautiful life filled with love, live music, and lots of wine!
Dave had big ideas about the places he wanted to travel to. He looked for any excuse to hop on a plane or in a car - especially if a rockabilly band or sports tournament was waiting on the other side. Dave’s adventures took him hiking the Inca trail, kayaking in Belize and Turkey, biking through Europe, golfing in Ireland, Scotland, North Carolina and Portugal, seeing wildlife on African safaris, and then finally settling in North Vancouver. He was just as happy exploring ancient ruins in Egypt as he was enjoying a coffee in a Parisian café or a sunset at Hillsboro Beach. Although Dave enjoyed fine dining and Michelin-star restaurants, he could not and refused to cook anything aside from fried-egg sandwiches, peppercorn steaks and the occasional barbeque. But he could always be counted on to provide the chef with a glass of wine from his extensive wine cellar.
Dave had many lifelong friends, with whom he enjoyed attending sporting events and concerts, travelling, golfing and sharing a nice bottle of red. Dave will be remembered for his kind heart and willingness to help his friends and family members. He was an emotional guy with a big heart who would shed a tear at any circumstance, big or small. Dave could talk passionately about any sport, remembering obscure details going back decades. He loved skiing with his friends at Devil’s Glen in Creemore and on numerous ski trips, even though he hated the cold. Dave had a great sense of humour and was always quick with a witty one-liner. He spoiled his daughters, who often accompanied him on his travels, as he loved spending time with them. He was able to balance his law practice while never missing his daughters' activities.
He is survived by his beloved wife Pat, his three daughters - Stephanie (Matthew), Alicia, and Jacqueline (Tyler) - and his five grandchildren, Memphis, Sophia, Gwen, Greyson, and Sydney, who will grow up with memories and stories of their Gramps’ adventures and big heart.
