David was born in Victoria, B.C. on June 5,1958 to John and Jean MacLeod. In 1962, the family moved to their ‘forever home’ on 35th Avenue in Vancouver.
Dave attended Quilchena Elementary and graduated from Point Grey High School in 1976. He then completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree from UBC in 1982. He articled with Deloitte Touche during which time he received his CPA designation in 1983.
In 1987, he joined the securities business at Pemberton Securities (now known as RBC Dominion Securities). This career was his passion. For a period of time, he worked at Anthem Properties as a Finance Executive but then returned to the securities business for the remainder of his career. After serving in various roles, his final role was Managing Director of Equity Capital Markets with Manulife Securities until he retired in the spring of 2019.
David was intimately involved with Save the Children. He donated his time as President of Save the Children BC for 4 years and served on the Save the Children Canada Board for 6 years.
On August 14, 1998, David met the love of his life Betty. A sweet courtship began and they soon became inseparable. They were married on January 28, 2000 and recently celebrated 26 years of marriage.
In the fall of 2019, David was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. Despite the challenges of fighting this disease, he continued to live life fully and courageously. He pursued his love of nature and the outdoors; fly fishing, hiking and biking with Betty, family and friends. Always with a smile and an infectious laugh. He was an exceptional travel planner and he and Betty had many amazing trips and adventures together.
Family meant everything to him. Family gatherings with both the MacLeods and the Bersaglios were cherished and his contributions to the fun and laughter that everyone loved will be remembered always.
David is survived by his wife Betty, sisters Sue (Ken) and Cathy and brother Tim (Bahar), brothers-in-law Sergio (Nancy) and Fabio (Christiane). The many nieces and nephews Taisha (Grant), Stuart (Catie), Thomas (Irene), Nicole (Aki), Michelle (Hiren), Jaclyn (Steven) Olivia and Hailey, Brock (Charis), Lauren (Daniel), Tia (Ostyn) and Mia (Jared) and great nieces and nephews, Daniel, Bella, Marshall, Angus, Loxley, Aria, Hadley, Jude, Leighton and Lyra.
A service will be held to honor David on Friday, February 27th at 11:00 am at Shaughnessy United Church on 1550 West 33rd Avenue, Vancouver, B.C.
For those who wish, donations to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada are gratefully accepted.
