Don passed away peacefully at the age of 92 following a short illness. He was the last surviving child of John Herbert Lockhart and Hazel Jean Lockhart (nee McKenzie).
Don was born and raised in Londonderry, Colchester County, Nova Scotia. He left Nova Scotia within two years of completing his formal education and began his journey across Canada, residing and working for a few years in both Toronto and Calgary. While in Calgary, Don met and married a prairie girl, Michelle Kathleen Eve Prendergast of Claresholm, Alberta. Don and Michelle moved to Vancouver in 1964 when Don gained a new position with the Government of Canada. Don retired after 30 years of service with the government.
After 46 years of marriage to Don, Michelle passed away in June of 2007.
In 2008 after a hiatus of several years Don took up travelling again. In the fall of 2011, while on a flight to Toronto, Don started up a conversation with the woman in the next seat. She was a very attractive widow, Jane Girard. During the five-hour flight they hit it off to such an extent that in June of 2012 they married. Don gained a whole new family as a result and became “Don Pa” to Jane’s four grandchildren. Sadly, in August of 2022 Jane passed away.
Don is fondly remembered by his stepchildren and step-grandchildren along with numerous nephews and nieces in British Columbia, Alberta and Nova Scotia.
Don requested that we not hold a funeral service for him.
In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice in memory of Don would be welcome.
