Donald Francis Macaulay

Donald Francis Macaulay passed away peacefully on June 27, 2026, at the age of 90. He was predeceased by his son Bruce (2017); his brother Alexander (Theresa) (2022); and his former wife Anne (2025). He is survived by his son Callum; siblings Father Neil, Mary (Stanley), Angus (Victoria) and Patricia; nieces and nephews Cathy-Ann, Michael (Elisabeth), Kyla (Leslie), Colin and Kevin.

Don graduated from Vancouver College in 1954 where he made many lifelong friends. Gregarious by nature, it is not surprising that he was drawn to sales as his life’s work, becoming a representative for Molson Brewery and later automobile dealerships. Don’s outgoing personality extended to every facet of his life. With his disarming sense of humour and genuine interest in others, he had the remarkable ability to turn strangers into friends. A kind and generous man, Don truly enjoyed offering a helping hand, whether it was driving people to appointments, giving advice, or simply being there when he was needed.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Don relished discussing teams, players and memorable games with family and friends. However, football was his greatest passion and reminders for upcoming Green Bay Packer and Notre Dame games were commonplace for those who shared his enthusiasm.

Don also loved driving the streets of Vancouver, exploring new routes to add to his vast knowledge of shortcuts. Before returning home, he would often stop at Spanish Banks, his favourite spot, sit on a bench and savour the view and fresh air.

Our family is very grateful for the care and comfort the staff of the Palliative Care Unit of St. Paul’s Hospital provided for Don in his final weeks. At 11:00 on August 20, 2026 a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Augustine’s Parish, 2028 West 7th Ave., Vancouver.
