It is with heavy hearts that we share the sad news of the passing of our beloved Mom — known to everyone as Dee — on December 13, 2025.
Dee was born on November 12, 1933, in Monegara, Northern Ireland, the second youngest of eleven children in a close-knit Catholic family. She trained as a nurse, qualifying in 1961, and soon after bravely moved to Canada, where she worked in hospitals in Ontario and across the country. She proudly became a Canadian citizen and dedicated herself to caring for others.
In Medicine Hat, Alberta, Dee met the love of her life, Dr. Jim Jan. They married in Banff on July 10, 1965, and later settled in Vancouver, where Jim specialized in pediatric neurology. Together, they built a warm and loving home.
Dee and Jim were blessed with four children: Joe, Patrick, Steven, and Tricia. Tragically, Joe passed away in infancy. Dee chose to leave her nursing career to devote herself fully to raising her family. She was a gentle, devoted mother, a supportive and wise wife, and a trusted advisor to all of us, always guided by her sound judgment and common sense.
Their marriage was long, happy, and filled with love. Dee's life was a beautiful example of kindness, faith, and family devotion.
We will miss her deeply, but we take comfort in the wonderful memories she leaves behind.
Personal notes from the immediate family will follow:
Mom was a committed mother, grandmother, and wife whose unwavering dedication to family and faith shined throughout our lives. Passionately kind and patient, and always extolling a positive perspective, she raised us with unconditional love, inspiring us to be better, and I am forever grateful that I got you for my mother.
~ Patrick
Non omnis moriar (“Not all of me shall die.”) — Horace. A life of kindness and love endures beyond the grave.
~ Steven
Mom was the heart of our family. Her love was constant and unconditional. She gave selflessly, cared deeply and lived with quiet strength. We were truly blessed to have a mother like ours.
~ Tricia
