Edward George Walz, known to many as Ed, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2025, at the age of 92. He was born on August 8, 1933, in Humboldt, Saskatchewan, to Cecilia and William Walz.
Ed grew up on the family farm in Saskatchewan before moving to British Columbia as a young man. It was in Port Alberni where he met his first love, Winifred “Winnie” Walz. Together, they shared almost 35 wonderful years of marriage, raising their family while living in Vancouver, Coquitlam, and Burnaby, with a special chapter of their lives spent in Calgary, Alberta.
Ed worked hard to provide for his family, building a life marked by dedication, faith, and love. He found joy in fishing and golf, hobbies that reflected both his love of the outdoors and his easygoing spirit. Above all, Ed’s strong Christian faith guided him throughout his life, leaving a lasting example for his children and grandchildren.
He is lovingly remembered by his children Daryl (Brenda) Walz, Karen (Johann) Ackermann, Marilyn (Ron - deceased) Cross, and Ed was predeceased by his youngest son, David Walz.
Ed’s legacy continues through his grandchildren Chelsea Trites (Walz), Joshua Ackermann, Kira Walz, Jeremiah (Whitney) Ackermann, and Jadah (Luke) Walz.
After Winnie’s passing Ed married Joyce Phyllis Carlsen on October 20, 1990. He is survived by his wife Phyllis, who held a special place in his life.
He is remembered also by his step children and step grandchildren Robert (Michelle) Carlsen, Alex (Maygan), Millie, Haizley, Alyssa (Jackson) Molnar, Ronald Carlsen, Kennedy, Hayden, Kody, Raymond (Florence) Carlsen, Brittney (Neil) Gibbings, Jack, Bennett, Damien, Bradyn (Abby), Joshua.
Ed was predeceased by his sisters Margaret, Rose, Alice, Verna, Martha, and his brothers Quirin, Alfred, Bernard, Wilfred, and is survived by his brother, Kenneth Walz and pre deceased by his brother Isadore Walz.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at 11:00am at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church located at 10460 139th Street, Surrey, BC. V3T 4L5.
Ed’s life was one of quiet strength, kindness, and faith, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
