With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Edward Zarchynski on June 25, 2025, at the age of 87.
Ed began his lifelong career in the grain industry in 1956 at just 18 years old, starting with Pacific Elevators. In 1975, he rose to the position of Foreman, and by 1980, he transitioned to Pioneer Grain Elevator as Superintendent. He remained in that role until his retirement in 1998. Throughout his career, Ed was known not only for his leadership and dedication but also for his mentorship. He helped countless individuals build careers in the grain industry and was instrumental in establishing a successful summer student program, giving young people the opportunity to gain experience and pursue their education with industry support.
Ed is leaving behind his beloved wife of 63 years, Karen, his sister Josephine, and his children: Michael (Jeanne), Catherine, Wendy, and Robyn. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Joey, Jennifer, Ryan, Brandon, and Cody, along with two great-grandchildren.
He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, quiet generosity, and enduring love for his family. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the family he held so dear.
The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 11th, 2025 at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 16079 88th Avenue, Surrey BC at 11:00am. Final resting place will be at the Gardens of Gethsemani Cemetery.
