It is with deep sorrow and immeasurable love that we announce the passing of our beloved sister, Elizabeth Anne Chapman, who died on May 13th at the age of 72. Her bright spirit left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Though her time with us was far too short, she filled her years with a generosity of heart, a quiet strength, and a warmth that made others feel seen and cared for.
She was born in Glasgow, Scotland and moved to Montreal in 1960 with the family. In 1969 the family moved for the last time to Vancouver where she lived for the rest of her life. Anne was predeceased by our younger sister, Linda, who was her best friend during their short time together, which they shared with much loved dogs and cats. Apart from family, Anne’s other passion was for the Bard on the Beach festival with which she was an enthusiastic volunteer for many years. Anne had a variety of jobs during her working life, but her last position before retirement was at ICBC where she made life long friends.
She had a way of bringing light into ordinary moments—through her laughter, her curiosity, and the gentle kindness she offered without hesitation. Whether she was sharing a story, lending a hand, or simply sitting beside someone who needed company, she made life softer for the people around her. Her later years were difficult as vascular dementia robbed her of much that we take for granted in life, however she would have wanted to acknowledge the care, love and companionship of the people at Broadway Lodge who became family to her toward the end.
As a daughter, sister, and friend, she was a source of joy and comfort. Her family will forever cherish the memories of her quick smile, her thoughtful nature, and the unique spark that made her unmistakably herself. Her absence leaves a space that cannot be filled, but her love remains woven into the lives she touched.
Anne leaves behind family and friends who adored her, who will carry her memory forward with tenderness and gratitude. Though we grieve her loss, we also honour the beautiful life she lived and the love she gave so freely.
May she rest in peace, and may those who loved her find strength in the legacy of compassion and light she leaves behind.
