Germaine Marie MacPhee
Germaine was born on February 26th, 1927, in Bonnyville Alberta. She was the 11th child of 12 children to Arthur and Albertine Verrier. When she was 10 years old her family moved to the Edmonton area.
At the age of 12 her class consecrated their lived to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. At the age of 18, Germaine entered the Convent of the Sisters of the Assumption in Quebec. Germaine spent 18 years with the order but later she decided that this calling was not for her. Germaine felt that she would be of service in the modern world.
She took a course as a comptometer operator and got a job working at Woodward's in the accounting department.
Six months later Germaine met Uncle John MacPhee and were later married. They were not able to have children because of their age and were not able to adopt. They both decided to travel the world. They felt so alive.
When Uncle John passed in 1999, Aunt Germain’s life changed once again.2 years later Germain moved from Nanaimo to Chilliwack so she could be closer to family.
Aunt Germaine dedicated her life to serving the parish priests in her church. She joined all the parish groups so that her time was not wasted. Germaine started going on pilgrimages and felt that Medjugorje was her favorite to visit.
At the age of 85, Germaine wanted to go back to Medjugorje one more time for 1 month.
Aunt Germaine asked Lynda and I to take the trip with her to Medjugorje, I agreed to take her if she allowed us to pay our own way. She gladly accepted and we spent 1 month with her in that special place we all loved.
What a pleasure it was, we fasted in the morning and afternoon, there was no TV, radio or cell phones. Just peace and silence.
Aunt Germaine you will always be in our hearts and remembered for your love and kindness, and your devotion to Jesus and Mary.
Peace be with you always.
