Anna Maria Germana Aere was born November 13, 1940, in Rauscedo, Italy - a small town in the northeastern farmlands of the country.
She is the only daughter and fifth child of Luigi and Lodivina Marchi.
Like the well-balanced Italian desserts she often enjoyed, her personality was sweet and a little salty, and she lived to comfort those around her.
In her twenties, love brought Germana to Canada. She immigrated in 1964 to start a new life in Vancouver with her late husband, Bruno. She married that same year and for over half a century, lived in North Burnaby on Pender Street, cultivating gardens, a family, and friendships with other immigrants in the neighborhood.
She worked in the community too, cleaning homes, making pasta, and working at Cioffi’s, an Italian deli.
Germana cherished spending time with those she loved. She often showed her affection by cooking traditional Italian meals like gnocchi for her grandchildren. Germana also enjoyed playing bocce at Confederation Park and cards at Confederation Community Centre. In addition to family, her culture and faith were the other foundations of her life - she was a member of the Famee Furlane of Vancouver and sang in the Holy Cross Italian Choir.
Germana’s late husband Bruno passed away in December 2004. Now she finally has been reunited with him in God’s kingdom.
Germana is survived by her daughter Franca and husband Taoufik; her son Luigi and wife Dennise; and her grandchildren; Jacob and wife Alyssa, Jonah, Zahra, Audrey; and great granddaughter Liliana.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Friday, June 19, 2026, at Holy Cross Parish, 1450 Delta Avenue, Burnaby, BC. Entombment to follow at Ocean View Burial Park, South Mausoleum, Burnaby, BC.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Villa Carital - the place she called home for the last two and a half years of her life.
Germana’s spirit will live on in the memories she created for those around her.
May she rest in eternal peace alongside her beloved husband.
