It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Giuseppina Figliola, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt on July 8, 2026 in Burnaby BC, at the age of 85. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Pietro, who passed away in September of 1988.
Giuseppina will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her sons Giovanni (Marianne) and Giuseppe (Giovanna); her grandchildren Stefania, Isabella, Nickolas and Valentina; her sister Maria Carmela; and many cousins, nieces and nephews living here, in Italy and in Australia.
Giuseppina was born in Riccia, Campobasso, Italy to Giuseppe and Annunziata. At the age of 18 she immigrated to Canada to be with the love of her life Pietro and after getting married on New Years Eve they settled in Vancouver’s Little Italy neighbourhood. They spent the next decade there before deciding to return to Italy. Nine months later the family returned to Canada and settled in Burnaby where Giuseppina spent the next 55 years.
Her door was always open to her family and the many friends she made from all walks of life. She was an avid reader and loved documentaries about geography, history and cuisine. Her favourite pastime was travelling to see the world. She managed to visit six of the seven continents while travelling to Italy numerous times to visit family and friends.
The family would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to the Palliative Care Team at Burnaby General Hospital for the exceptional care and compassion shown to our mom during her time there.
In lieu of flowers, a charitable donation to the B.C. Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
A Catholic Burial Mass will be held at Saint Helen’s Parish located at 3860 Triumph Street, Burnaby on Tuesday, July 21st. A viewing will be held at 10am followed by Mass at 11am. Entombment will take place at 1pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 3789 Royal Oak Ave, Burnaby.
