It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved “Zia” and cherished friend Giuseppina Strangio who died peacefully on April 1, 2026, in Burnaby, British Columbia, at the age of 90.
Born on November 16, 1935, in Nicastro, Calabria, Italy, Pina grew up surrounded by the close bonds of family that would remain the guiding force of her life. In 1955 she emigrated to Vancouver, where she married her beloved husband and life-mate, Giovanni Strangio, with whom she built a new life and home in Canada. Together with her in-laws, Franco and Rosina Clemente, they established a new life marked by hard work, devotion to family, and the pursuit of a happy and prosperous future.
Though Pina had no children of her own, she was like a second mother to her many nieces and nephews, giving them her generous, steadfast, and unwavering affection throughout their lives.
Pina was a talented finishing tailor and worked for many years at G. Campbell Ltd., where her skill, dedication, and strong work ethic were deeply valued.
She will be remembered above all for her warmth and sociable spirit. Pina loved nothing more than welcoming family and friends into her home, sharing meals, laughter, and stories. Over the decades she formed countless friendships, and her home was always a place where people felt welcomed and cared for.
Pina was predeceased by her beloved husband Giovanni Strangio and most recently by her older sister Giovanna Hofoss. She was also recently predeceased by sister in-law Rosina Clemente, whose passing she felt deeply.
She is lovingly remembered by her younger sister Vanda; her nieces and nephews Joe and Tom Conway, Dan and Terry Hofoss, Geni Audino, Rina Kramar, and Joe Clemente; as well as close family friends Domenic and Settimia Cirillo and their families, along with many extended relatives and dear friends whose lives were enriched by her kindness and generosity.
A Funeral Mass will be held on April 25, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church in New Westminster, British Columbia. Entombment will follow at 2:45 p.m. at the South Mausoleum, Oceanview Burial Park in Burnaby, British Columbia.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Pina’s memory to Royal Columbian Hospital.
Pina’s life was one of devotion to family, friendship, and quiet generosity. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
