Gregorio Jauregui

On behalf of the Jauregui Family, we would like to thank you all for honouring and remembering Gregorio.

The loss we are feeling is a testament to the love and the relationships we shared with him.

Although we feel immense sadness at his passing, we remember Gregorio today with love and gratitude. He touched all of our lives in different ways, and I know that with time, our memories and stories of Gregorio will bring a smile to our faces rather than a tear to our eyes.

Gregorio was born on February 10, 1942, in Aldaz, Spain. He was a strong, yet gentle man, a hard worker and a great provider. Growing up in the Basque Country, Gregorio spent a lot of time toiling the earth for work and reaping the harvests for his family. After immigrating to Canada, Gregorio finally settled down in Vancouver, where he married the love of his life, Maria Olaya, 48 years ago.

Gregorio really enjoyed gardening, whether it was his own garden or one of his neighbours. He was most happy when he was surrounded by his wife, family and friends.

Gregorio had music in his heart, a love of sports and a curious mind which guided him through most of his life.

He also loved the card game of Mus, and some of us were lucky enough to have the opportunity to watch, play and learn from the best. We never could quite master the discreet signals that he and his brother, Juan could somehow pass to each other without being noticed, and we will definitely remember that twinkle in his beautiful brown eyes when he would call cinqo embido or Ordo and then smile when he knew he had us beat, or had just totally bluffed us.

We have been fortunate to share many family celebrations with Gregorio over the years, where he sat at the head of the table in the most important role of his life – Grand Uncle or as his grandchildren call him, Tio Lolo. Gregorio also maintained strong family ties in both Spain and Chile.

The love of Gregorio’s life was his wife, Maria Olaya, and he knew he was the luckiest man in the world to have her always by his side. Gregorio was so proud of his family and his three beautiful grandchildren: Nicole, Xavi and Kasen. Gregorio’s life, his heart and his memory will live on in all of them.

Gregorio, husband, our family, loved one, friend, Tio Lolo. We know you are with the angels, and when we look closely, we will see the garden of flowers from the skies above, and we will know that you are in a better place.

En nombre de la familia Jáuregui, me gustaría agradecerles a todos por estar aquí hoy para honrar y recordar a Gregorio.

La pérdida que sentimos es un testimonio del amor y las relaciones que compartimos con él.

Aunque sentimos una inmensa tristeza por su fallecimiento, hoy recordamos a Gregorio con amor y gratitud. Él tocó todas nuestras vidas de diferentes maneras y sé que con el tiempo nuestros recuerdos e historias de Gregorio nos traerán una sonrisa a la cara en lugar de una lágrima.

Gregorio nació el 10 de febrero de 1942 en Aldaz, España. Era un hombre fuerte pero amable, muy trabajador y un gran proveedor. Al crecer en el País Vasco, Gregorio pasó mucho tiempo trabajando la tierra para trabajar y recoger las cosechas para su familia. Después de emigrar a Canadá, Gregorio finalmente se estableció en Vancouver, donde se casó con el amor de su vida, María Olaya, hace 48 años.

Gregorio disfrutaba mucho de la jardinería, ya fuera la suya o la de sus vecinos. Se sentía muy feliz cuando estaba rodeado de su esposa, su familia y sus amigos.

Gregorio tenía la música en su corazón, el amor por los deportes y una mente curiosa que lo guió durante la mayor parte de su vida.

También le encantaba el juego de cartas Mus y algunos de nosotros tuvimos la suerte de tener la oportunidad de verlo, jugar y aprender de los mejores. Nunca pudimos dominar las señales discretas que él y su hermano Juan podían pasarse de alguna manera sin ser notados y definitivamente recordaremos ese brillo en sus hermosos ojos marrones cuando llamaba cinco envido u Ordao y luego sonreía cuando sabía que nos había ganado, o simplemente nos había engañado por completo.

Hemos tenido la suerte de compartir muchas celebraciones familiares con Gregorio a lo largo de los años, en las que se sentó a la cabecera de la mesa en el papel más importante de su vida: el tío abuelo o, como lo llaman sus nietos, el tío Lolo. Gregorio también mantuvo fuertes lazos familiares tanto en España como en Chile.

El amor de la vida de Gregorio era su esposa, María Olaya, y sabía que era el hombre más afortunado del mundo por tenerla siempre a su lado. Gregorio estaba muy orgulloso de su familia y de sus tres hermosos nietos: Nicole, Xavi y Kasen. La vida de Gregorio, su corazón y su memoria vivirá en todos ellos.

Gregorio, esposo, nuestra familia, ser querido, amigo, Tío Lolo. Sabemos que estás con los ángeles y cuando miramos de cerca, veremos el jardín de flores desde el cielo y sabremos que estás en un lugar mejor.
