Helen Anita Thibeault (née Richard), born January 5, 1933 in Bonnyville, AB, passed away peacefully with family by her side on August 6, 2026 in Vancouver, BC. From a family of 12 children, she moved to Vancouver in 1953 where she stayed with her older sister, Marie, and earned her LPN diploma. Later, she met her loving husband, John, they married in 1955 and were together for 57 years. Helen was a loving wife, caring mother and proud grandmother.
Helen will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Denise, Marie and Richard; her grand-children, Dustin (Nikki, (Mia, Callie)), Quinn and Duncan; her sister, Claire Donaldson of Edmonton and many nieces and nephews.
Helen was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Paul; sons, Eugene and Daniel; her parents, Marguerite and Dosithe Richard; brothers, Joseph, Albert, Leo, Norman and Raymond Richard; sisters, Irene Labonte, Viola Hemphill, Marie Vlake, Lorraine Nelson and Theresa Richard.
Helen lived her life with a strong unwavering commitment to her Catholic faith and was a long-time member of the Legion of Mary.
She looked after those she loved, in 1991, she welcomed her 93-year-old mom into her home and cared for her for the next 5 years. During this time, they moved to the Fraser Valley and lived in Mission from (1995-2006), then in Abbotsford, BC between (2006-2022). Helen moved to Columbus Lodge Delta, in 2022 where she enjoyed 21/2 years, then due to declining health, moved into Long Term Care.
During her last decade, Helen faced many health challenges, osteoporosis and vertebral fractures affected her mobility and a stroke in 2020 brought further trials, but with her feisty spirit, determination and strong will to live, she persevered.
Although Helen is gone, she will live in our hearts forever.
Many thanks for the exceptional care provided for nearly 2 years, by the patient, compassionate, and caring team at Windermere Care Centre.
