Hugh William Paterson

Hugh William Paterson, also known as “Huggie Bear,” passed away peacefully on August 25, 2026 in Vancouver, BC. He was born December 24, 1938, in Calgary, AB and was predeceased by his parents, William S. and Mary Paterson, and sister, Margaret Kirkeide. He is survived by his daughters, Gaynor Leigh, Laurel Mary and Stacey Lynn, and seven grandchildren.

Hugh was a member of Seymour Golf and Country Club for nearly 20 years and loved his daily walks along Vancouver’s seawall. He made his homes in False Creek, Kitsilano and South Granville.

Hugh was cremated, and in keeping with his wishes, his family will honour him with a private burial at sea and an urn interned in Banff with his mother. May he be at peace.
