HUGH JOHN ROBINS, born in Edmonton, Alberta in 1936, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2025, surrounded by love, family, and friends.
He is survived by his four sons: Bradley (Donna), Scott, Mark (David), and Patrick (Shala); his granddaughter Pia(Chris); great-grandchildren Savannah and Ethan; and his dear and loving friend, Pauline. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Dorothy Emmie, and his parents, Frank Oliver and Dorothy Mary.
At just 17, Hugh joined the Royal Canadian Navy and sailed the Pacific. While in the navy, he met the love of his life, Dorothy, in Victoria, B.C., where they were married.
After the navy, Hugh worked alongside his father Frank in northern B.C. and along the Alaska Highway; he later pursued careers in insurance and sales, before joining Dairyland in Prince Rupert. There, he and Dorothy raised their sons and spent nearly 25 years. During that time Hugh served on both the school board and municipal council.
After retirement, Hugh and Dorothy settled on Vancouver Island before making their final home in Chilliwack, B.C.
A passionate genealogist, Hugh traced his roots to Cornwall, England—a journey he joyfully completed on a trip with his eldest son Bradley in the spring of 2024.
His faith was a guiding light throughout his life, including his involvement at St. Mary’s Catholic Parish in Chilliwack, as well as his years of service with the Knights of Columbus.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at Chilliwack General Hospital and Cascade Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Hugh’s memory may be made to the Cascades Hospice Society (chilliwackhospice.org | 604-795-4660).
