It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jim Gouk, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend who succumbed to a courageous fight with cancer. He passed away peacefully on May 27 2025, at the age of 79.
Jim was an extraordinary man of many talents leading a life full of adventure, laughter, love and purpose. Born April 15 1946, Jim was the only child to 2 hard working Scottish immigrants. A career in Air Traffic Control led him to eventually settle in Castlegar in 1976. There he became involved with community services, serving as an alderman for 2 terms with the city of Castlegar and a longtime member of the rotary club, along with several other activities. After the control tower closed in 1990, Jim’s love of politics led him to the next phase of his life, serving 13 years as the member of parliament for the West Kootenay riding. The ever-changing boundaries had Jim representing people from Revelstoke to the Southern Okanagan and Similkameen Valley under the Reform, Canadian Alliance, and Conservative Party banners.
Retirement allowed Jim to focus on his passion for golf, hiking and bike riding - which he shared with friends both here and snowbird friends in Arizona. He was a vivacious reader and loved to cook for family and friends.
Jim is survived by his wife Ann of 55 years, son Warren (Jen), daughter Wende (Dave), and grandchildren Tanner, Emerson and Olivia.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Jim's charities of choice - BC Cancer Foundation and BC SPCA.
He lived “A life well lived“ and is deeply missed.
