James Dale Scribner—known to all simply as Dale—passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026, surrounded by the love he spent his life giving so freely. Born in Vancouver on July 19, 1944, Dale spent his early years in North Vancouver before moving to Surrey, eventually settling in Sapperton, where he made his home for more than 50 years. His roots ran deep, and the community he helped build became an extension of his family.
Dale was cherished for his kindness, his generous spirit, and the unmistakable twinkle in his eye that hinted at his quick wit and warm sense of humour. He lived a life defined by service and heart. His journey began in the Navy, where he learned the values of dedication and camaraderie that shaped the man he became. He continued that spirit of service through his work with the United Commercial Travellers, his volunteer efforts at Woodlands, and his beloved role as Santa—bringing joy and magic to countless families over the years.
Family was the centre of Dale’s world. He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Diana; his daughters, Tracy (Cory) and Bean (Les); and his grandchildren, Nicola and Jake, who brought him endless pride and joy. He is also survived by his sister Jean (Chris), along with many nieces, nephews, and an extraordinary circle of friends who felt more like family.
Dale is predeceased by his father Ab, his mother Jenny, his brother Tom, his sister Virginia, and his brother‑in‑law Freeman. Their memories remained close to his heart throughout his life.
A Celebration of Life will be held on March 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Kearney Funeral Services, 219 6th Street, New Westminster. Family and friends are warmly invited to gather, share stories, and honour a man who gave so much of himself to others.

Dale leaves behind a legacy of compassion, humour, and unwavering love—a legacy that will continue to shine through the many lives he has touched. He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever cherished.
