It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of Jan Mary Thomas, age 79, on October 4th, 2025 - exactly twenty years to the day after the passing of her beloved husband - Gerrard Thomas (October 4th, 2005). She faced her long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease with quiet strength and grace. Her warmth and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughters Katie Riviere (Phil) and Laura Thomas (Arash Kojouri), and her adored grandchildren Ariella, Liam, Denny and granddog Nyx. She will also be fondly missed by her extended family - sister-in-law Barbara Thomas (Al Rogers); brothers-in-law Keith Thomas (Chris) and Vernon Thomas (Sheryl); nieces Juliette Thomas, and Kim Hunter (Brad) and their children Holly and Wyatt, fur babies Baker and Benny.
Jan was known by everyone as the kindest of souls - gentle and endlessly giving. A devout Catholic, she found strength and comfort in her faith, which guided her through life’s joys and challenges alike.
For many years she shared her incredible sewing talent, crafted with precision and love. She was also an exceptional gardener whose knowledge and green thumb made her the family’s go-to consultant for all things plants and flowers. Her handwriting and calligraphy was widely known for its beauty. Jan’s love for dogs was lifelong and unwavering, and she found joy in every wagging tail she met.
Prayers will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at 5:30pm at St. Francis de Sales Church, 6610 Balmoral Street, Burnaby, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 15 at 11:30am. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park 3789 Royal Oak Ave, Burnaby.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Parkinson Society British Columbia or the BC SPCA are gratefully appreciated in Jan’s memory.
