Joan Anne Garritty (née Townsend)

Our sweet Joanie passed away peacefully in the evening of March 29th, surrounded by the love of her family and in the kind and gentle care of the doctors and nurses at St John Hospice, Vancouver BC.

Joan was born at Grace Hospital, Vancouver BC on May 24,1950 to Frank and Angela Townsend (deceased) and lived most of her life in this beautiful city.

Joan is survived by her devoted husband of 50 years, Dennis Garritty; her sister Kathleen Boyle (Graham); her sister-in-law Teresa MacDonald (Kevin); her cousin Gloria Lorenzen and many cherished nephews, nieces and great-nephews and great-nieces.

Joan dedicated her entire career to the nursing profession, both as an RN and in later years to the care of the elderly, as both a nurse and an administrator, demonstrating a great devotion and compassion to seniors and to their families. To all family members and many friends Joan was a confidante, guide, mentor and most admirably, the custodian of our treasured memories.

A Mass of Christian burial was held in the late spring.
