John Donald Southall, 74, known to everyone as Jack, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026, surrounded by his family, after a battle with cancer.
Jack was born and raised in New Westminster, British Columbia, the city he loved his whole life and where he went on to raise his own family. He was a fierce competitor and a gifted wrestler, earning provincial championships in BC. Sports were a central part of who he was, and the grit he showed on the mat carried into everything he did.
In his later years, Jack found a quieter joy in painting, collecting, and working with his hands. It was a gentler side of a man who had always given everything his all.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Carol; his children, Jackson (Shawn), Jenny (Kenny), and Jimmy (Caroline); and his grandchildren, Chloe, Bradley, Jack, Jesse, Declan and Eagan. He is also survived by his brothers, Bill (Nellia) and Doug (Marianne).
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses in Palliative Care (N52) at Surrey Memorial Hospital for the comfort and care they gave Jack in his final weeks, and for putting up with his unique sense of humor.
He will be remembered and loved for his competitive spirit, his devotion to his family, and his deep roots in New Westminster.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Jack's memory to the BC Cancer Foundation. A private service will be held in the coming months.
