J. Lyle Woodley, passed away on Friday January 16, 2026 at the age of 98 surrounded by family. He was born in Edmonton Alberta on August 11, 1927 and raised in Red Pass, B.C. for 12 years before moving to Vancouver for schooling. He was the devoted husband of Anita for 67 years and a wonderful father to his two children - daughter Jane (Jack) and son Scott (Sharon) and grandchildren Kimberley and Michael (Latisha) and great grandchildren (Natalia, Aubree, Hanna). He believed in telling the truth because as he always said, “your reputation is the only thing you take to your grave.”
Lyle had been a member of the B.C. Bar since 1964. He obtained his B.Comm and LLB degrees from the University of B.C. He was made in 1982 a Queen’s Counsel now a Kings Counsel. He retired from the practice of law at the age of 83 from Paine Edmonds. He loved the practice of Law. Prior to joining Paine Edmonds, Lyle was employed for eleven years in a supervisory capacity with the Insurance Company of North America (INA).
When sharing with friends, family and his coworkers of Dad’s passing, we received many kind words such as he was the end of Era, an honest and hard-working gentleman and a real leader. This seems to us he achieved a formidable reputation from the people he touched. He now has time to walk Spanish Banks hand in hand with his wife Anita.
The Funeral Mass will take place at Saints Peter and Paul Parish on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 11:00am. Cremation to follow, with inurnment at Mountain View Cemetery at a later date.
