Jonathan To Fung Chan (陳道豐)

1938 — 2025

COQUITLAM

Jonathan passed away peacefully in St. Michael’s Hospice in Burnaby, BC, on August 31, 2025, at the age of 87. He now rests in the arms of our Lord.

Jonathan was a free-spirited adventurer that viewed the world with optimism. He had a joyful sense of humor and liked to joke often. His passion for painting with watercolor and acrylics led him to join the Federation of Canadian Artists, where he would attend many art shows and have his works on display. In his lifetime he traveled to many parts of the world to experience culture and adventure. He will be missed by all those whom he shared his life with.

Jonathan was born into a Christian family in Hong Kong in 1938. He was the second oldest of 7 siblings. Jonathan grew up in the church, attending Sunday school, youth fellowship, and Bible study classes for many years. He was baptized at the age of 16. In 1957, Jonathan moved to Taiwan to pursue his architecture degree. He then moved to Vancouver in 1967, then later to Calgary. Jonathan then wanted to pursue an interior design education, so he moved to Winnipeg and graduated from Brandon University in 1972. He then moved to Toronto to work as an interior designer before returning to Calgary in 1982, where he soon met his wife, Nancy Kwok (郭麗芳). Jonathan and Nancy raised their two boys, Christopher and Jeffrey in Calgary up until Nancy’s passing in 2013. Jonathan then moved back to Vancouver with his son Christopher in 2014. Jonathan attended Vancouver Evangelical Free Church for some years, and then later attended Westwood Alliance Church.

A Memorial Service will be held at Vancouver Chinese Evangelical Free Church (3295 E Broadway, Vancouver, BC) on Friday, September 19th, 2025, at 1:30 PM.
