Kathleen Gallagher

GALLAGHER, Kathleen passed away peacefully on September 15, 2026, in Vancouver, BC. Kathleen is predeceased by her siblings Mary Sieyes, Hannah Morris, Grace Gallagher, Dan Gallagher, and Frank Gallagher. She will be dearly missed by her many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Born on June 15, 1932, in Gweedore, Donegal, Ireland, Kathleen had a simple childhood in the country and she enjoyed her school life. She left Donegal in the early 1950’s to train as a nurse in Glasgow, where she obtained her psychiatric and general nursing certification. After working in Glasgow, she continued her nursing career in London, England, moved to Toronto, Ontario in the late 1960s and subsequently to Burnaby and to Vancouver in British Columbia a few years later. She had a long career as a nurse at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Vancouver and enjoyed her teaching posts in the nursing field. When she retired in 1993, she received many kind messages from the staff, thanking her for her support, wisdom, friendship, and her wonderful humour. She loved her nursing career and the teaching side of it, helping teach future generations of nurses.

Kathleen was independent, but very social. She enjoyed going to events and laughing with her friends and visiting family members. She kept active and took many long walks, but also had her quiet times with good books. She was a strong, spirited woman, and sharp as a tack. Kathleen was a deeply faith-filled woman, attending mass regularly, and praying the rosary daily.

In retirement, she visited Glasgow every few years to visit her beloved family members. Family was very important to her and she welcomed family to visit her in British Columbia. In her last few years, her health deteriorated and she missed her friends and family who had passed away, but she remained positive and kept her sense of humour.

She will be remembered fondly and lovingly by her family and her friends. The family extend their sincere appreciation to all those who cared for and provided such wonderful support to Kathleen in her final years.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, September 24, at 11:00 am at St. Augustine’s Church, 2028 W. 7th Ave, Vancouver, BC V6J 1T4. A memorial service will be held in Ireland at a later date, where her ashes will be buried with her other dearly departed family members.
