With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of our dearest Margaret Cuffy (Chambers), who suffered death and went home to our Lord on June 24, 2025, at the age of 78. Affectionately known as “Granny” to many, she departed from this life peacefully, surrounded by those who loved her dearly.
Margaret was a devoted wife to Ronald Cuffy (deceased) and exceptional mother to Neil Cuffy and Lisa Price (Cuffy). She was a deeply cherished mother-in-law to Cherisse Cuffy (Gill) and Dominic Price, and delighted in her grandchildren, Jada, Arianne, Joseph, Levi, Nolan, and Lucas.
She was a treasured and loving sister to Michael Chambers (deceased), sister-in-law to Jenny (Mottley), and devoted aunt to their sons. Also beloved by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Albert and Beryl Cuffy (Mailins-Smith, both deceased), brother-in-law, Harold Cuffy, and sister-in-law, Jean Douglas (Cuffy, deceased), their spouses and children.
Born in the twin-island Caribbean nation of Trinidad & Tobago to George “Joffre” and Elsa Chambers (nee Carter, both deceased), Margaret grew up surrounded by her extended family in her childhood home in Belmont, which backed onto the home of her grandparents. The eldest girl among her first cousins, she is affectionately remembered by her younger relatives as being not just a cousin, but a caring and affectionate big sister and devoted “Aunty” to their children. A role which continued till her passing.
Margaret attended Bishop Anstey Junior School and Bishop Anstey High School, followed by the University of the West Indies, Trinidad. She spent many years in finance and banking, most recently handling the corporate accounts of clients at Royal Bank of Canada, Trinidad and Tobago. There she made several life-long friendships which she continued to nurture after her retirement in 2007.
In the latter part of her life, Margaret would faithfully attend rosary prayer meetings and bible studies with friends online in Trinidad while residing in Canada. She later joined the Legion of Mary at Precious Blood Catholic Church as an auxiliary member and would often attend the Precious Blood Moms & Tots group with her daughter and grandchildren to pray the rosary and share in enriching discussions. Margaret will be fondly remembered by the many members of the wider community whose lives were touched by her uncanny ability to make each one of them feel seen, heard, and loved individually.
An avid baker and artist, Margaret is remembered for the delicious treats which she would often whip up for family and friends, including brownies, hot milk sponge cake, beef pies, and fried bake. As well as the detailed sugar flowers which she handcrafted and applied to the many wedding cakes she prepared for others with care and love. She often expressed her love to others in the food that she prepared and served, in addition to the many portraits of relatives which she hand drew.
Most of all, having a heart for service, Margaret served and cared for others deeply and unconditionally whether they were family, friends, acquaintances or strangers. She will be deeply missed by her family and extended relatives whom she lived surrounded by in Canada during the last years of her life.
Margaret will be remembered for her unwavering faith in God, humility, unlimited generosity, and quiet strength in the face of adversity.
Her legacy, peace, light and love will forever remain in our hearts.
