In loving memory –

Maria Conceição (Connie) Macedo died peacefully in Chilliwack, B.C. on September 30, 2026, at the age of 88.

Connie loved her family and was dedicated to her faith as a member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church for the 47 years that she lived in Castlegar, B.C. and later as a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Chilliwack.

Connie was born on August 21, 1938, in Feteira Grande, Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal, to Olivia Machado and Antonio da Costa Medeiros. She married the love of her life, Ernesto, in December 1963. The couple then started a family, with Connie giving birth to their two daughters, Ana and Helena, over the following years in Sao Miguel.

Connie and her family emigrated to Canada in 1973. They settled in Castlegar and Ernesto began working at the local sawmill, now owned by Interfor. Connie later gave birth to their son, Richard.

Following Ernesto’s retirement from the sawmill in 2001, he and Connie continued to live in Castlegar until 2020. In October 2020, Connie and Ernesto moved to Chilliwack.

She spent countless hours tending to her beautiful flower garden in Castlegar, took great pride in her baking, and brought a kind, steady presence to her neighbourhood.

Left to mourn her death, but also celebrate her memory, are her brother, Antonio Medeiros (Lucia); children, Ana (Peter) of Chilliwack, Helena (Cory) of Kelowna, and Richard (Andrea) of Calgary; grandchildren Megan (Joel), Sydney, Allie (Jordan), and Sara (Sam); and many other family and friends in Canada, the United States, Brazil and the Azores.

She was predeceased by her parents, Antonio (1967) and Olivia (1998); husband Ernesto (2022); and her sister Maria Olivia Amaral (2004).

The funeral will take place at St. Mary’s, Chilliwack on October 16, 2026.
