Martha (Marty) Kassen

It is with great sadness we share the passing of Martha (Marty) Mary Kassen on April 11, 2025 in Surrey, BC.

Marty was born in Emmett Idaho on April 3, 1948 to Wally and Vesta Foster and younger sister to Diane. The girls were raised in Colorado and enjoyed many family activities including horseback riding, jeep adventures and skiing.

Marty was predeceased by her loving husband Jim Kassen. They were married on Aug 17, 1968 and moved to Canada on the same day. They had many adventures in Fort McMurray, AB and forged many close friendships before ultimately settling outside of Dawson Creek, BC on a property where they spent most of their wonderful lives together.

Marty will be remembered for her compassion, generosity and kindness as well as her creativity. She was passionate and interested in others and spent most of her career as a teaching assistant where her patience and teaching ability shone.

Marty found a variety of outlets to express her creativity; weaving, painting, photography, sewing, woodworking, quilting and gardening. Although she never considered herself an artist her friends and family would disagree!

Marty dedicated her life to her family and friends, always concerned for their well-being and offering unconditional love and support. She will be remembered as an exceptional mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, wife, friend and woman.

Her passing is felt deeply by her son Wade (partner Nicole Vaugeois), daughter Nicole (husband Owen Sheedy), grandchildren (Kaden, Callum, Delainey, Stone, Lawson) and extended family and friends.

For those who knew Marty an intimate Celebration of Life and brunch will be held in Dawson Creek, BC at the golf course on Sunday, April 27, 2025 at 11:30am.
