Mavis Lucy Toovey (née Huddleston), age 90, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2026 in North Vancouver, British Columbia. Born on September 21, 1935, in Vancouver, BC, Mavis spent most of her life in North Vancouver, a community she deeply loved and served.
Mavis was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jack; her sisters, Kathleen and Pat; and her daughter, Joy.
She is lovingly remembered by her children Anne (Carl), Janet (Karim), and Paul; her grandchildren James, Emma (Julian), and Jack.
Mavis attended St. Paul’s Hospital School of Nursing, where she began her nursing career and later met the love of her life, Jack. Together, Mavis and Jack shared a deep love of travel and adventure, always looking forward to discovering the next place together.
A woman of strong and enduring faith, Mavis was a devoted parishioner of St. Stephen’s Parish for 56 years and an active member of the Catholic Women’s League. Her faith was reflected not only in her devotion, but in her actions. Mavis was well known for her generous spirit and lifelong commitment to service, volunteering with Meals on Wheels, a domestic violence support line, as a catechism teacher, and through the much-loved “Toovey Coffee” Sundays following Mass.
Mavis will be remembered for her kindness, quiet generosity, and the warmth she brought to everyone she met. Her welcoming smile, steady compassion, and unwavering care for others leave a lasting legacy in the hearts of her family, friends, and community.
The funeral Mass will be held at St. Stephen’s Parish on February 21, 2026 at 12:00pm. Reception to follow.
