Engr. Nestor Famas Aliman, 73, passed away peacefully on March 28th 2026, surrounded by loved ones in Vancouver, Canada.
Born on Jan. 20, 1953 in Oroquieta City, Philippines, to two public school teachers of humble means, Nestor was one of eight siblings. An intelligent and studious child with an insatiable thirst for knowledge, he was a source of pride and joy to his parents, receiving award after award and eventually earning a college scholarship that launched his career in engineering.
He began his professional journey as a college instructor and later worked as an engineer in the System Planning Division at the Philippines’ National Power Corporation in Manila. During this time Nestor earned a scholarship to the prestigious Asian Institute of Management where he received his Masters in Business Administration. As an engineer, he was a key part of the team that designed hydroelectric power plants in Mindanao, ensuring the stability and growth of the region’s power grid. It was during this time that he met his wife, Agnes.
Together, their journey later took them to Los Angeles, where they started their family and then to Toronto for several years. During their time in the US and Canada, Nestor chose to halt his professional development in the Philippines to support Agnes in her journalism career – a testament to his role as a supportive husband and father.
Upon returning to the Philippines, he successfully reignited his corporate career, succeeding in the field of system planning, energy management, electricity trading both with government agencies and private sector power companies in the Philippines. Outside of his professional achievements, he remained a devoted father who emphasized the importance of education and family.
Even in his retirement, Nestor continued his legacy of service as an elected member of the Board of Directors of Perpetual Help Community Cooperative Inc. in Dumaguete City. There, he advocated for renewable energy financing, helping uplift the lives of cooperative members while working to minimize the impact of climate change in the country.
Both in his personal and professional life, he demonstrated a belief in using one’s talents to build a better society.
He is survived by his wife, Agnes and children Ryan, Lauren, Kyle and Stephanie.
A funeral mass will be held on April 10th 2026 at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Parish at 2881 Main St., Vancouver, BC, Canada. A memorial to celebrate his life will follow on the same day to commemorate highlights of a life well-lived and what he meant to his family and friends. Grateful to family and friends, Light of Jesus friends and Sillimanians from B.C. who have sent prayers, flowers and funds during this difficult time of grief.
