Paolo Mario Brunoro

Paolo Mario Brunoro was born on December 22, 1960, in Vancouver, British Columbia, and passed away on August 16, 2025, in New Westminster, British Columbia.

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Paolo, a warm-hearted and adventurous son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, friend, and teammate. Paolo’s journey in this life was marked by a spirit of generosity and a deep love for his family. He leaves behind his cherished mother, Carla; his sister, Anna; brother-in-law, Steve; his brother, Gino; sister-in-law, Lori; and his nephew and nieces, Nicholas, Sophia, and Isabella. He will be deeply missed by his aunts Luigina, Mirella, and Cristina, and Uncle Luigino. He was especially close to his many cousins and their children, finding joy and a sense of belonging in their collective wisdom and stories. He was in touch with many extended family members in Canada, in the United States, and in Italy. Paolo’s absence will be felt by all who knew and loved him.

Paolo was a man deeply rooted in family and in his Catholic faith. His heart held a special place for those who shaped him. His late father, Mario, along with Paolo’s mother, instilled in Paolo a deep appreciation for his Italian heritage. And it was his father who first nurtured Paolo’s love for playing sports; he was his biggest fan. Paolo was also devoted to his late brother, Gianni, whom he never stopped missing.

Paolo grew up in Burnaby, BC, attending Holy Cross elementary and later Notre Dame and Burnaby North high schools. He was a gifted athlete who excelled in many sports, from hockey to basketball to football. However, his true passion was lacrosse. A legendary player in his younger years, he won back-to-back Minto Cup championships with Burnaby Cablevision in 1978 and 1979. In 1993, he won the Presidents Cup Senior B Championship with the North Shore Indians. He coached the Burnaby Junior Lakers in 2001 and 2002, leading them to win the Minto cup in 2002. His love for the game led him to coach countless young players. He made significant contributions to the sport in the Lower Mainland, in Boston, MA, and most recently the Bella Venezia Lacrosse Club in the Veneto region of Italy.

Beyond playing and coaching sports, Paolo built a successful career as a commercial painter. He was always happy to paint the homes of his friends and family, a testament to his kind and giving nature. His deep love for travel was a reflection of his adventurous spirit, and for the last eight years, he split his time between Canada and Italy, exploring many parts of his ancestral land as he fully immersed himself in its culture and beauty. From a young age, Paolo had a deep love for music; he was a regular at concerts and often shared his favourite artists with those around him. He also had a great appreciation for wine; he enjoyed not only sharing a glass or two of good wine with friends but also picking grapes at various vineyards in Summerland and in Langley, BC, and most personally, on his ancestors’ vineyards in the Prosecco region in northern Italy, near Pieve Di Soligo, the town where his father was born. Paolo will be remembered as a humble and generous soul who quietly volunteered his time in coaching in various parts of the world. His Catholic faith also led him to do volunteer work in Vancouver, Cuba, and in El Salvador.

Paolo’s greatest accomplishment was the community he built and the web of friendships he wove throughout his life. He remained in touch with many people around the world and was a true friend.

His spirit of generosity touched the lives of many, and he will be forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Paolo is now reunited with his father, Mario, and his brother, Gianni, whom he so dearly loved.

Prayer and Funeral Details:

Prayers will be held for Paolo at Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church, 315 Walker Street, Coquitlam, BC, on Thursday, August 28, at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima on Friday, August 29, at 10:30 am, with Entombment to follow at Gardens of Gethsemani Catholic Cemetery, 15694 32nd Avenue, Surrey, BC.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to the Paolo Brunoro Memorial Fund. Paolo will be deeply missed by family and friends but forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.

È con profondo dolore che annunciamo la scomparsa del nostro amato Paolo, un figlio, fratello, zio, nipote, cugino, amico e compagno di squadra dal cuore caloroso e dallo spirito avventuroso. La vita di Paolo è stata segnata da una grande generosità e da un profondo amore per la sua famiglia. Lascia la sua adorata madre, Carla; sua sorella, Anna; il cognato, Steve; suo fratello, Gino; la cognata, Lori; e i suoi nipoti, Nicholas, Sophia e Isabella. Mancherà profondamente alle zie Luigina, Mirella e Cristina, e allo zio Luigino. Il suo defunto padre, Mario, insieme alla madre, gli ha trasmesso un profondo apprezzamento per le sue origini italiane. E fu suo padre a nutrire per primo l’amore di Paolo per lo sport; era il suo più grande fan. Paolo era anche molto devoto al suo defunto fratello, Gianni, la cui assenza non ha mai smesso di sentire.

Paolo è cresciuto a Burnaby, nella Columbia Britannica, frequentando la scuola elementare Holy Cross e in seguito le scuole superiori Notre Dame e Burnaby North.

Paolo si è ora riunito a suo padre, Mario, e a suo fratello, Gianni, che tanto amava.

La Messa di sepoltura cristiana sarà celebrata presso Our Lady of Fatima venerdì 29 agosto, alle 10:30, seguita dalla tumulazione presso il cimitero cattolico Gardens of Gethsemani, 15694 32nd Avenue, Surrey, Columbia Britannica.

Invece di fiori, la famiglia chiede di considerare l'idea di fare una donazione al Fondo commemorativo Paolo Brunoro. Paolo mancherà profondamente alla famiglia e agli amici, ma sarà per sempre ricordato da tutti coloro che lo hanno conosciuto e amato.
