Patricia (Pat) Flickinger (nee: Biggins) was born in Oldham Lancashire England March 14, 1931 and died in South Surrey, BC, Canada, January 7, 2026.
Pat was one of three children. She earned a bachelor’s degree in library science from Manchester University then worked as a travelling librarian in the rural areas around Oldham. Pat later obtained a double master’s degree in English and Library Science at Simon Fraser University after which she worked at Capilano College as a Research Librarian.
It was at SFU that Pat met Charles (Chuck) Flickinger and friend Meredith Prochot. Pat and Chuck were married at Star of the Sea Church in White Rock. Chuck had 4 children, the youngest of whom was 10 when they married. Pat and Chuck traveled in their 5th wheel trailer for well over a year. Pat loved cats and adopted some and borrowed others. Thai, a Siamese, was their first cat, and a real terror to visitors. Later, they had two cats, Bubble and Squeak, very British names!
Pat was involved in volunteer work at the Soup Kitchen run by the Catholic Church, and at the volunteer agency, Sources, fielding requests for referrals.
Pat lived 94 years and outlived many friends and family. She was comforted by her belief in an afterlife and was sad but not stressed when informed of a person’s moving out of this life. Pat was a devout Catholic and enjoyed the rituals of her faith.
Pat loved nature! She loved being out in nature and bringing nature indoors! She loved birds, especially songbirds and was comforted by their distinct sounds. She also loved animals of all kinds (especially cats). She loved the outdoors, hikes, walks and travel with family and friends and her many deep and long friendships!
Pat enjoyed diverse music and in the past few years found comfort in using a “Simple Music Player” which contained opera, gospel, modern music as well as relaxation and bird/nature sounds.
Pat always enjoyed travelling. In addition to trips back to England to visit family, she enjoyed trips to Cuba, Australia, and several countries in Central America, as well as many of the U.S states. She often travelled with friends and made friends along the way. One of Pat’s favorite places on earth was Bondi, Australia where she and Chuck spent 2 months relaxing and soaking up the sun!
Pat was a what could be described as a “good woman”. She was kind, fun, interesting and interested. She will be missed by many here, and met by many on the other side.
