Patricia Suan-Sim Law

Patricia Suan-Sim Law died in Vancouver, British Columbia, on July 20, 2026, at the age of 82.

Born in Singapore on May 11, 1944, Pat earned a degree in mathematics from the University of Singapore. She married Anthony (Tony) Law in Vancouver in 1968 and subsequently studied education at the University of Alberta, where Tony was already a medical student.

After completing their studies, Pat and Tony returned to Singapore, where Pat taught A-level mathematics and their two sons, Michael and Marc, were born. In 1976, the family moved permanently to Canada in search of new opportunities, settling in Prince George, British Columbia. Pat then devoted herself to raising her sons. In 1990, the family moved to Vancouver.

Pat was generous, thoughtful, and kind. Cheerful and good-humoured, she formed and sustained a wide circle of friendships in Singapore, Prince George, and Vancouver. She was an excellent cook and hostess, with a particular gift for making pastries, and took great pleasure in welcoming family and friends into her home.

For many years, Pat was an avid tennis player. She also travelled widely with Tony, visiting six continents. She enjoyed the companionship, new experiences, and many friendships that both pursuits brought into her life.

In her later years, macular degeneration increasingly limited her independence and required her to give up many of the activities she had enjoyed. She also lived with Parkinson’s disease.

Pat is survived by her husband, Tony; her sons, Michael Law (Maggie Campbell) and Marc Law (Hiromi Fukuda); and her grandson, Nathaniel Law. She was predeceased by her brother, Jeffrey Lee.

She will be greatly missed by her immediate and extended family and by her many friends in Canada, Singapore, and elsewhere.
