Patricia Mary (Patsy) passed away peacefully on Friday, April 17, at Berkley Care Centre, North Vancouver, BC, at the age of 95.
Pre-deceased by her first husband, Robert Neville Foster (1993), and second husband Geoffrey Joseph Maingot (2017). Also pre-deceased by her siblings Janice de Verteuil (Bernard), Richard O’Connor (Elspeth), and Leary O’Connor (Gillian). Patsy will be remembered lovingly by her children Patricia-Ann, Charleen, Robert, and Brian, as well as her daughters-in-law Marguerite and Fiona, and former son-in-law Alan; her nine grandchildren Jonathan, Gregory, Madeleine, Kevin, Kelly, Jeffrey, Alan, Natalie, and Ian; three great-grands Leander, Isidor, and Gwennan; and many nieces and nephews.
Patsy was born in a small coastal village in South Trinidad, West Indies, and grew up with her parents and siblings in an oilfield camp. During the WW2 years, her father was asked to start a dairy and pig farm to provide for the camp. Patsy often relayed many fond memories of her childhood life then, including the times she and her siblings would sneak little piglets into their beds at night. For education, Patsy boarded at St. Joseph Convent in Port of Spain and later at Ursuline Convent in Barbados. She worked for one year at Royal Bank of Canada before marrying Neville and starting their family. Patsy had a quiet personality but once comfortable with someone, she was a chatty person and always had a mischievous smile and good sense of humor. As her children grew older, Patsy turned to writing, teaching herself to type, a hobby that surprised her and her children. She wrote children’s verses and stories, articles for a women’s magazine, and a play that was produced on local television. Patsy was immensely delighted to win an award and a trip to Moncton, NB for one of her children’s stories. As her parents got older Patsy started to care for them, and when they passed, she and Neville immigrated to Vancouver, BC. Nine years after Neville passed, Patsy was fortunate to meet and marry Geoffrey and enjoyed further years of marriage and companionship.
The family would like to thank the staff at Berkley Care Centre for the care and attention they gave Patsy during her stay there.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at St. Edmund’s Church, 545 Mahon Avenue, North Vancouver, BC.
