Surrounded by his loving family, Rick left this earth early in the morning as the sun was coming up. He was welcomed home by his parents, George and Joan Davison, his beloved brother Sam, and his parents-in-law Bob and Gerry Smith. He leaves behind a family that was his pride and joy; his wife of 48 years, Theresa, and his children Erin (Mike), Geordie (Renee), and Kaitlyn, and his grandchildren Caleb, Aiden, and Hannah. Rick will also be missed by a large family including his three sisters, his sisters and brothers-in-law, and a pack of nieces and nephews too long to list.
Rick was the longtime owner of Hastings Brass Foundry which he took over from his own father, continuing a family legacy of working in the foundry industry. He was a past Chairman of the American Foundry Society – BC Chapter, and was widely regarded as an honest, hardworking, and fair man, to his employees, customers, and within the business community.
Rick was a ferocious driver and had an innate ability to terrify his passengers; despite this, he maintained a clean driving record, with the exception of just a few speeding tickets. Going fast came naturally to Rick who spent his younger years racing motorcycles and sidecars up at Westwood Motorsport Park, finally retiring after winning the Canadian Sidecar Championship with his partner John Wildman. He came back to motorcycling in his later years and could often be found riding one of his Moto Guzzis down whichever twisty roads he could find.
As his kids grew up, Rick was able to find more time for travel, both internationally and cruising the coast in his own boat. Rick was a member of the Langley Power and Sail Squadron, and a past Commodore of the Royal City Yacht Club. He was fond of walking the docks of every marina he visited, to see what boats were there, and if there were any friends he needed to catch up with.
The family would like to thank everyone at the George Derby Centre who helped to make the last five years as pleasant as possible for Rick. Despite all the things that his stroke took from him, he maintained his wry sense of humour, and the staff all delighted in seeing if they could make him laugh.
A celebration of Rick’s life will be held on Thursday June 18, 2026 at Newlands Golf and Country Club at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Rick’s honour to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Union Gospel Mission, or any other worthy charity.
