Ronald James Joosten

Ronald James Joosten of Chilliwack BC passed away on October 1, 2026, after a short stay in hospice. Family members were with him in his final days.

Ronald was born April 3 1937 in Cape Town, South Africa, to Alec and Rose (nee Fabe) Joosten. Ronald qualified as a teacher in South Africa, married, and emigrated to Canada in 1965 to teach. He later earned a Master's Degree from the University of British Columbia. After 31 years of teaching in Chilliwack, Ron retired to enjoy some well-earned leisure years.

Ron was an avid photographer from the age of sixteen. His subjects included city and rural landscapes, oceans and beaches, birds, and people. In his later years, he turned his lens to close-ups of flowers and the environment surrounding them, both in his home garden and any public gardens he visited. Ron also enjoyed travelling in BC, especially Vancouver Island, attending live music performances, reading, and the company of family and friends.

Ronald is survived by Valerie, his wife of 61 years, son Neil, and daughter Natalie.
