Salvatore Scorda

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and nonno, Salvatore Scorda. He passed away peacefully on July 15, 2026, in Vancouver, British Columbia, at the age of 97, surrounded by his beloved wife and surviving children.

Born on January 5, 1929, in San Nicola d'Ardore, Reggio Calabria, Italy, Salvatore proudly served in the Italian Military in Mantova in 1950-1951 before immigrating to Canada in 1956. He worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway for many years before retiring in 1994.

Following his passing, Salvatore was joined one week later by his beloved wife of 73 years, Ada.

He was also predeceased by his son Giuseppe (Darlene ♰), daughter Maria Rosa (Vincenzo), brothers Domenico (Maria Concetta ♰), Giuseppe (Maria Rosa ♰), and Pasquale (Maria).

He is lovingly remembered by his children, Sammy (Dale) and Concettina (Matteo); his brother, Nicola (Silvia); his cherished grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends in both Canada and Italy.

Salvatore was a handyman at heart and was able to repair almost anything. His true passion, however, was tending to his vegetable garden and wine making. He was very proud to share his food and wine with the people he loved.

The family would like to thank the care staff at UBC Purdy and Renfrew Care Center for their loving care of Salvatore during his last years. We are forever grateful for their support, compassion, empathy, patience and exceptional care.

A visitation for family and friends will be held 3:00 p.m to 4:30 p.m, on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at Kearney Burnaby Chapel.

Prayers will be offered on Wednesday, August 12, at 7:00 p.m., at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 2025 Napier Street, Vancouver.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 13, at 11:00 a.m., followed by entombment at Ocean View Burial Park, South Mausoleum. A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Parish Hall following the entombment.
