It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of our beloved friend, aunt, and sister in faith, Shairoon Bainbridge, at the age of 82, at St. John Hospice in Vancouver, BC.
Shairoon was born in Cedros, Trinidad, on June 17, 1942. She followed her heart in everything she did and moved to England, and to New York, before finally settling in Vancouver, BC. She was a hairstylist, jewelry adviser, painter and ballroom dancer. More than anything, however, she was a faithful friend to all.
She lived in faith and inspired goodness in all around her. She brought joy to everyone she met by her caring nature and her willingness to follow through in assisting others. She was troubled by the injustices of the world and described by others as always looking for solutions to the world’s problems. Above all, she was a Christian full of humility, compassion, kindness, generosity, charity and love. She was enthralled by the natural beauty that surrounded her and loved living close to Stanley Park and English Bay. She was never too busy to sit quietly on a bench to admire the beauty that God had created. She lived fully in the presence of, and union with, God. She emphasized the importance of complete trust in God even when faced with challenges and difficulties.
Shairoon was preceded in death by her brother, Khusmali Baksh, her sister, Hassiran Hakim, and her husband and partner, Ronald Bainbridge. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Shan Baksh, Azard Baksh and his wife, Nazreen Baksh, Nalini Baksh and her husband Satish Chickurie, Richard Hakim and his wife Shanta Hakim, Mary Hakim and her husband Eustace Holder, Joan Hakim, Karen Hakim, and Camille Baksh.
