Theodore Albert Geernaert

December 12, 1941 — October 7, 2025

Burnaby

Theodore Albert Geernaert, 83, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025. Born December 12, 1941, in New Westminster, BC, Ted grew up in Vancouver and made Coquitlam his home for over 50 years. A lifelong Catholic, Ted found joy in both the earthly and the intellectual. He was happiest with his shovel in the soil of his garden, discovering treasures while rock hounding, or exploring British Columbia's back roads. An avid bowler, he was equally at home at the bridge table or chess board, where his strategic mind thrived. As a longtime member of the Telecommunication Workers Union, Ted championed the just treatment of those with little power and influence, embodying his deep commitment to fairness and dignity for all workers.Ted is survived by his children, Terrence (and Heidi) Geernaert and Michelle Clark; his grandchildren, Malika (and Randal) Warren, Cameron, Selena, Elizabeth (and Michael) Naginis, Theodore, Jasher, Peirce, Benedict, Ripley, Alexander, Felicity, Katherine, Anastasia, and Charles; his great-grandchildren, Jude and Lucy; and his sister, Sr. Donna Geernaert. A funeral mass will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Parish at 11:00 a.m. on November 6, 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Michael the Archangel Parish or The Robert Edward Schmidt Trust Fund/Lewy Body Dementia Research Fund in memory of Ted.

May the perpetual light shine upon him, and may the souls of all the faithfully departed, rest in the peace of Christ.
