Trevor passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 1, 2025, at the age of 97. Trevor is survived by his sons Rupert (Helen) and Gerry, and grandchildren Andrew (Frances), Christine and Alison.
Trevor was born in Brighton, Trinidad on February 21, 1928, the youngest of four boys. He graduated from St. Mary’s College in Port of Spain, then began his career working with Barclay’s Bank. It was there that he met Anne Hunter, and the two were married in Port of Spain in 1950.
Trevor subsequently went on to work as an accountant with Canning & Co. in Port of Spain, and then Trinidad Sugar Estates at Orange Grove. It was while at Orange Grove that first son Rupert came along.
In 1958 the family emigrated to Calgary, Alberta, with second son Gerry coming along shortly thereafter.
Trevor’s first job in Calgary was working as a junior accountant for a small oil and gas company, Cardwell Manufacturing Inc. Trevor enrolled in night school at this time and eventually earned his Registered Industrial Accountant designation.
Cardwell was acquired by Bow Valley Industries, a large Calgary-based oil and gas conglomerate, in 1962. Trevor spent his whole career in the accounting and financial ranks of Bow Valley, retiring as a senior executive in 1987.
Always a keen sailor, on retirement Trevor packed up all his belongings, moved out to White Rock and bought a 35 foot sailboat.
Trevor enjoyed his retirement immensely. Summers were spent on the water, cruising the Gulf and San Juan Islands. Winters were spent in Palm Desert and Hawaii. There was a lot of world travel sprinkled in as well, included individual trips with each of his grandchildren when they were teenagers, the memories of which they treasure to this day.
When he felt he could no longer handle the rigours of sailing, Trevor became a keen model ship builder. He hand built a number of museum quality ships out of wood, several of which remain proudly on display in the homes of his sons.
The family would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to the staff at Amica West Vancouver for their compassionate care of Trevor, especially over the course of the past year as his health deteriorated.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:30pm to 4:00pm on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at The Gull Bar and Kitchen, 175 1st Street East, North Vancouver.
