With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Vlado Zaradić, who passed away peacefully on May 11, 2026, at the age of 94, surrounded by his loving family at Burnaby Hospital.
Born on August 10, 1931, in Lovreć, Croatia, Vlado left the former Yugoslavia in the mid-1950s to escape the emerging communist regime and pursue a better life. After spending two years in France, he immigrated to Canada, settled in Vancouver, where he joined his older brother Željko.
In 1959, he met the love of his life, Mary, and they were married on February 21, 1964. Together, they raised three daughters: Mandy (Loris), Yvonne (Boban), and Maryann (David). He was also a proud grandfather to Lauren (Gio), Robert (Nicole), Malena, Ben, and Ella.
Vlado was known for his strong work ethic, love of cooking, devotion to family, and deep involvement in the Croatian community. He volunteered for many years cooking at Croatian church picnics and worked as a chef at the Croatian Cultural Centre. He loved gardening, making homemade wine and smoked meats, and sharing meals with family and friends. His favourite saying was “No problem,” spoken in his unmistakable Croatian accent.
A devoted Catholic, Vlado will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for his family. Although he was unable to meet his great-grandson, expected this August, his legacy and love will live on for generations to come.
Viewing will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Kearney Burnaby Chapel, 4715 Hastings Street.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Heart of Mary Croatian Catholic Church, 3105 East 1st Avenue, Vancouver, BC on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Followed by an entombment at Ocean View Burial Park, South Mausoleum in Burnaby, BC.
May he rest in peace.
