Wanda Joy Berg

June 6, 1932 — January 5, 2026

Burnaby

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Wanda, on January 5, 2026. She passed away peacefully at the age of 93, surrounded by love. Wanda was deeply cherished by all who knew her, and her warmth and strength touched many lives.

Wanda was predeceased by her husband, Jack, the great love of her life. They shared more than 70 years of marriage, and we find comfort in knowing that they are now reunited. She is lovingly remembered by her children Brian (Audrey), Carol (Ron), and Dave (Helen); her grandchildren Gary (Carol), Trevor (Emma), Suzanne (Sean), and Stuart (Brianne); and her great-grandchildren Mila, Hazel, and Finn.

Wanda grew up in Vancouver on Grant Street, attended Templeton Secondary School, and later graduated from the Grandview High School of Commerce. Her exceptional clerical skills led her to a successful career, culminating in her role as secretary to the BC Tel President of Engineering. Through her good friend Pauline, who was also Jack’s sister, Wanda met the love of her life. They married on Wanda’s twenty-first birthday, June 6, 1953, beginning a remarkable journey together.

Wanda and Jack settled into their family home on Cliff Avenue in Burnaby, where they raised their three children. Wanda was the heart of the home and the family—resilient, capable, and always ready to meet life’s challenges head-on. She was a fierce champion of her family, both immediate and extended, and her greatest joy was being surrounded by those she loved.

Athletics were a lifelong passion for Wanda. She was an accomplished figure skater with the Connaught Skating Club, a devoted field hockey player and coach to Carol for many years, and an enthusiastic tennis player who often bested Jack on the court. Wanda was also a talented and avid seamstress, and for years her children and grandchildren proudly wore “Couture by Wanda.”

Wanda and Jack loved to travel, and enjoyed many cruises and trips exploring the world. They held a special fondness for Hawaii, where they spent many happy months at the foot of Diamond Head. Throughout her travels and her life, Wanda formed a wide circle of friends. Her warm, welcoming spirit ensured that once you met her, you were a friend for life.

Mom offered unwavering love in abundance. She made the world a better place, and while we will miss her terribly, we are comforted knowing she leaves behind a lasting legacy of support, kindness, and optimism—hallmarks of her life.

The family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care and support Wanda received at Chenchenstway Care Home in Burnaby.

“How lucky we were to have had someone who makes saying goodbye so hard.”

A Celebration of Life for Wanda will be held on February 8 at 11:30 a.m. at Burnaby Mountain Golf Club (7600 Halifax Street, Burnaby, BC).
