William Martin Beaton (Bill) was born on June 6, 1938, in Flin Flon, Manitoba. He spent much of his early life in the North, where he worked for Hudson’s Bay Mining as a Hooper. After mining, he became a pioneer in the computer industry, creating groundbreaking software in Manitoba.
While studying at the University of Manitoba he married his first wife, Heather, in 1961 and had two children.
Bill had a deep love for the outdoors and could often be found camping, canoeing, or fishing, always happiest when surrounded by nature. Over the years, Bill also developed a passion for travel, exploring extensively and building memories across many places. Later in life, he made his home on the West Coast, where he married Madeleine. Family was at the heart of Bill’s life, and he cherished every moment with his grandchildren. His presence was steady, his laughter warm, and his stories endless—gifts he leaves behind for his family to hold dear. Bill is survived by his daughter Darcie and his son Cam (Adrienne), along with his beloved grandchildren: Dontai, Felicia, Jayden (Isabel), and Kyron; his great-grandchildren: Tatiana, Taidon and Rylee, and his great-great grandchild, Elijah. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. The family will gather privately to honor Bill’s life. In keeping with his love for the outdoors, they invite others to remember him in their own way, whether by casting a line, paddling on calm waters, or simply pausing to enjoy the beauty of nature.
